The evening

The inaugural sit-UP comes to a climax with our after-party and awards show. Time to make those
vital final contacts of the day, discuss what you’ve learned, or simply have a good old natter
about life. There will be drinks, food, and awards a plenty. No one will feel they’re going home empty
handed – with this party, we will make sure everyone’s a winner!

sit-UP's awards will be decided upon by our pool of senior decision-makers from across the
industry, comprising industry executives, marketing and PR professionals, journalists,
commentators and more. Each judge will only be assigned one category and will have no direct
connection with their allotted category.

Phil has delivered award-winning work in agency and inhouse roles across the travel industry for the last 20 years. Currently overseeing comms for the Travelbag and Netfights brands within dnata Travel Europe, his experience spans digital, consumer, corporate and trade PR.

Emma runs ABTA’s busy press office, which is often the first port of call for journalists looking for insight and expertise on travel related-matters. The PR team at ABTA works with a range of journalists, bloggers and influencers to get their messages across to consumers, as well as developing social campaign to reach new and existing audiences. David Ezra

PR Director

David Ezra is director of PR at specialist travel and tourism agency kbc, whose clients include major international destinations and commercial organisations. In a 25-year career he has gained extensive experience across a wide range of travel sectors, destinations and products, working closely with traditional media and influencers on behalf of leading brands including the Florida Keys & Key West, Hong Kong Tourism Board, Carnival Cruise Lines, the Florida Keys & Key West, and the Leisure Pass Group.


Debbie Flynn

Much of Tim's experience is multi-national agency work with corporate, consumer and some healthcare clients encompassing corporate responsibility, brand / stakeholder reputation, strategic planning and global co-ordination for companies including Procter & Gamble, sanofi-aventis and First Data / Western Union. Specific expertise includes strategic counsel, brand development and messaging, issues and crisis, stakeholder and internal communications, new business development and agency management. For the past 7 years as a founder of WixHill PR Tim has built a boutique agency specialising in travel, lifestyle and food.


Stuart Fyfe

Like many Australians, Stuart had a love of travelling the world from an early age that eventually led to him pursuing a career in the industry, representing international hotel brands in Australasia before he relocated to London six years ago. He then joined Rooster PR where he headed up a team who managed a client portfolio that includes airlines, tourism boards, hotel & resort brands, transport operators and online travel companies. In 2017, he acted as the project manager for the launch China Airlines in the UK, overseeing PR, advertising and digital/social strategies. In June 2018, Stuart joined Tourism Australia as PR Manager, UK & Northern Europe.

Amanda is President of Hills Balfour Europe and Middle East, the world's leading specialist travel and tourism communications agency specialising in integrated marketing, PR, representation, campaigns, creative, social, digital and MICE for some of the leading destinations across the globe. Kate heads up the LOTUS LATAM division at LOTUS and has wide experience of developing and executing marketing and communications campaigns across both consumer and B2B travel brands ranging from national tourist boards to global hotel groups, airlines, travel associations and tour operators. Kate has headed up campaigns across nine global markets including a range of influencer initiatives. She is a trustee of the LATA Foundation, a charity set up by the Latin American travel industry that sponsors essential grassroots projects in the region.


Alastair McKenzie

Alastair McKenzie is the definitive futurist/early adopter. He was writing travel news for the first online travel brands before the millennium and creating XML-based multimedia travel content immediately after. Since 2010 he has been working at the heart of the travel blogger/influencer industry, speaking & moderating regularly at social media & blogging conferences, writing on blogging and social media developments, and advising the travel & tourism industry.

Emma Mead is Head of Global PR and Influencer Marketing for VisitBritain/VisitEngland, with more than 13 years’ experience in inspiring visitors to discover the people, places and experiences that make Britain unique. Emma has been instrumental in creating, implementing and measuring global PR and influencer strategies, ensuring that activity is integrated throughout the organisation. Whilst running the PR and Influencer programme back in 2012, Emma started to examine the metrics that were being used to report on activity, and how relevant they were in demonstrating impact on the organisational goals. Since then, she has transformed the way that influencer marketing is evaluated at VisitBritain / VisitEngland, which has resulted in a better understanding across the business of the impact that successful activity can have , as well as championing integration as part of a marketing planning process.


Rachel O'Connor

EmmaSiren Communications was founded in November 2005 by Rachel O’Connor, who set it up after running a conflict agency for global business Hill & Knowlton. Rachel brings a wealth of client experience from some of the biggest brands in the world and the biggest names in travel having worked on Kellogg’s, Ford Motor Company, Vauxhall Motors, Sarah Lee, Florida Tourism and Queensland Tourism. Siren Communications’ first client was a project supporting the Queen’s Golden Jubilee, and we have gone from strength to strength ever since. Rachel’s professional reputation is recognised by her appointment as Deputy Chairman of the PRCA’s Travel and Tourism Group. She is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations and many of the other travel and communication bodies. Rachel O’Reilly

Rachel has worked in the travel industry for more than two decades and has been the media spokesperson for luxury worldwide travel company Kuoni for the past five years, making numerous appearances on television and radio. Throughout her career in travel PR Rachel has worked for companies of all shapes and sizes, from large mass-market companies to small, independently-run start-ups. For six years, she ran the press office at TUI UK dealing with a wide brief ranging from crisis response to brand campaigns. She’s worked and travelled throughout Australasia, the USA, Canada, the Caribbean and Europe. Rachel is used to talking about destination trends, but has also been at the forefront of dealing with the many issues which impact on travel. For the last 10 years, Rachel has appeared in the PR Week Powerbook, a list of the UK's most influential communications professionals and is currently listed at number 4 in the Powerbook’s list of the most influential individuals working in travel PR.

She is currently the global director of communications for Dorchester Collection, a position she has held for eight years. In addition, she has held senior corporate roles based in three continents including global vice president of communications for Kerzner International (One&Only Resorts, which she launched, and Atlantis) and has headed up worldwide comms for Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts, The Savoy Group and Thistle Hotels. Julia was included in PR Week's 2018 and 2017 Power Books as one of the ‘UK’s most influential comms professionals’ and named one of their top five 'Big Shots' in the hospitality sector.


Sue Whitehead

Sue Whitehead is Director and co-founder of Hume Whitehead Ltd, a leading PR, marketing and representation agency with a global portfolio of high profile travel and tourism clients. Sue has more than three decades of experience in travel and hospitality, with previous roles including Regional Director EMEA for the Hong Kong Tourism Board, Marketing Director of two of the UK’s largest hotel groups and ten years in marketing and operations with the world-renowned Orient Express organization.
